Invasive Species Project

CLEAN BOATS CLEAN WATER

Many of the CPLA volunteers are involved in the (Clean Boats-Clean Waters) program. We have volunteers who spend many hours throughout the summer at the boat launch ramps to inspect boats and boat trailers for aquatic hitchhikers such as Eurasian Water-Milfoil, Curlyleaf Pondweed, and Zebra Mussel.  Boaters are given brochures and informational packets on how to stop invasive species that could harm our resources.  The spread of Eurasian Water-Milfoil is highly invasive in a wide variety of lake and sediment types, but preferring higher nutrient lakes. New billboard type informational signs were placed around the chain of lakes in 2008. The new signs promote Clean Boats and Clean Waters and awareness of Aquatic Hitchhikers!
